The Yang Sword Form is an advanced martial arts exercise for wielding the double-edged straight
Chinese sword. Grandmaster Chen's Tai Chi Sword Form is a direct descendent of the form of his legendary teacher,
Professor Chen Man-Ching, who learned it from Yang Chengfu, the most influential Yang family member of the 20th century.

The double-edged Chinese sword lends itself naturally to the principles of Tai Chi because it is not
designed to meet force with force. Instead, the sword is used to deflect, avoid, and redirect blows -
before delivering a slash or stab of its own.
This was the weapon of choice for many famous generals and
scholars.

The Tai Chi Sword Form is preparation for two-man practice that is similar to push hands.
Most often, small circular
movements are used to slice, nick, cut, and thrust. Getting out of the way and slicing are encouraged, as opposed
to blocking with the blade or large chopping movements.

Grandmaster Chen goes through the whole Sword Form twice in a lovely environment (Greenwich, CT),
naming each move as he does it. This is an excellent version for students to follow. (8mm)
